Internship: Science Education

GOAL: Support Institute @ CPF in developing, delivering, and scaling professional learning for science educators

For the last 25 years, the Captain Planet Foundation has developed and provided project-based environmental learning strategies that bring education to life. Our comprehensive programming supports educators who are looking to: 1) Take learning outside;  2) Connect youth to their local environment; and 3) Empower students to become active agents of change.

Project Description:

The Institute @ CPF is committed to developing, delivering, and scaling high-quality professional learning opportunities for science educators to engage their students in three-dimensional science using the environment as context for learning. An intern with the Institute will be involved with a variety of projects including:

  • Training development & delivery both in-person and online
  • Research and continued development and support for Eco STEM Resource Kits
  • Field testing of science education activities incorporating technology such as microcontrollers and environmental sensors, spectrophotometers, etc;
  • Creation of videos and hands-on supply kits for distance learning model of professional development;
  • Development of digital badges aligned to science ed standards;
  • Design of an environmental stewardship project for each K-12 grade level related to endangered species;


  • Excellent communication skills including written and oral
  • Attention to detail, precision, and accuracy
  • Ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
  • Preferred (any of the following)
    • Video production skills and experience
    • Coding; microcontroller programming (arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc)
    • App development

*Approximately 10-20 hours a week. All internships are unpaid but can be arranged for credit. We are looking for motivated Interns and volunteer positions who are able to handle multiple tasks.
